Sponsor trees, orchards, species, endangered animals or turtles in distress … There are several ways to help with a small financial contribution to preserve nature and animal life. It’s just a matter of finding the one that motivates us the most.

1. Sponsor a tree

In July 2005 a fire burned 13,000 hectares of forest in an area near the Tajo Alto Natural Park, in Guadalajara. The Sponsor a Tree Foundation aims to contribute to the recovery of this natural environment.

Each sponsor makes a symbolic contribution of € 1 per year for a minimum of 5 years, and receives a sponsorship certificate detailing the land tile where their tree will be located.

Are there any other options. For example, this 2020 the project Sponsor an olive tree invites us to contribute small amounts of money to save the abandoned olive trees of Oliete, a depopulated town in Teruel.

2. Sponsor agriculture

Farmers in rural areas are setting up orchard or fruit tree sponsorship projects . It is about contributing some money each month to help them continue with their activity. In return, they usually offer some products generated in those lands.

Some even offer the possibility that we ourselves pick the fruits or vegetables from the garden. It is a great option to support organic and local agriculture and, at the same time, receive quality organic products.

There are many companies that offer this type of service (you should look for one close to your home). These are some examples: Econat, El huerto de Cirilo, Fuites Nuria …

3. Sponsor a dog or cat

In Spain, every three minutes a pet is abandoned by its owners. An alarming figure that does not seem to decrease due in large part to the current economic situation. “The crisis has also caused a reduction in the number of adoptions,” says Carla Cornella, president of the Foundation for Advice and Action in Defense of Animals ( FAADA ).

Both circumstances explain why currently shelters and animal shelters host a very high number of dogs and cats in their facilities. Sponsoring is a good option to support the work of these entities : “Sponsorship helps to cover the basic needs of these animals and that their lives are as similar as possible to those they would have in a home.”

From FAADA they offer the possibility of sponsoring cats, dogs or horses from various shelters distributed throughout Spain. The sponsor, whose contribution is voluntary, receives information and photographs of the animal and can also visit it.

4. Help in biodiversity

Tigers, elephants, chimpanzees, bears, lynxes, dolphins, seals, penguins … WWF / Adena gives us the option of symbolically sponsoring an endangered species. In addition, for each species adopted (for 39 euros), you receive a precious plush toy and a leaflet about its life, threats and the work of WWF to prevent its extinction.

The Army and the Spanish Association against Cancer also offer the possibility of sponsoring a penguin to protect this animal and, incidentally, raise funds for the fight against this disease.

Rescue, rehabilitate and socialize primates that live in terrible conditions, coming from illegal trafficking or the entertainment world: this is the objective of the Mona Foundation, which allows each of its chimpanzees to be sponsored and given a dignified life for a contribution minimum of 10 euros per month.

Grefa is an NGO that joins efforts to protect the Iberian fauna. Through your sponsorship program you can contribute to the rehabilitation of an injured animal and its subsequent release by contributing a fee of about 100 euros.

El Refugio del Burrito is a Malaga association that works for the welfare of donkeys and mules that need special attention. From 5 euros a month you can sponsor one of them.

Wild Forest Reserve gives a second life to injured wild and domestic animals. They currently have more than 50 that you can sponsor and are working to open a larger reserve. In his Instagram account you can follow the evolution of each of the rescue cases.

5. Supports the rescue of marine fauna

The sea is sick and needs our help. Its biological wealth is at stake, since many species of marine animals and plants are currently in danger of extinction.

The CRAM Foundation has been fighting threats to marine biodiversity for more than 20 years. Donations can be made to help them continue to recover and reintroduce specimens of threatened species into their habitat but, in addition, there is the option of sponsoring or sponsoring turtles that have been rescued but that, due to their weak health, cannot be reintroduced. In their habitat.

It is a very special way of contributing to the conservation of the marine environment. In addition, when sponsoring a torguga, they receive a personalized certificate and information and photographs of the rescued animal.
