In summer the orchard and garden are in one of their best moments. Some plants give the fruits and others the flowers that make life happy. But they need our attention and we can offer it to them using only natural means.

Tips for having more flowers

  • To combine flowers with vegetables on the terraces, small ones are preferable, such as calendula, spider mite, marigolds, begonias, Chinese carnation, cineraria …
  • Vegetables with creeping habits (lettuce or dwarf beans) combine well with vertically growing ornamentals such as sunflowers. And vice versa: convolvulus or nasturtiums with tomato plants on stakes or corn.

How to identify fungi

  • Mildew: discolorations and yellow spots on the surface and white on the underside.
  • Powdery mildew or whitish: produces a layer of white-gray powder in an irregular or star shape.
  • Bold or sooty mold: it arises on the remains of sugary secretions left by sucking insects.
  • Botrytis: leaves, stems, flowers and fruits rot and appear covered with gray mold.

A natural remedy is to wet the plant well with a 5% dilution of lactic acid in water. You can also dilute a yogurt (100 cl) in a liter of water.

Fill your vegetable garden or garden with flowers

There are many ornamentals in which it is possible to provoke new blooms with the simple trick of removing old flowers. Among others: osteospermum, roses, hibiscus, marigolds, geraniums, gypsies, petunias, gazanias, chrysanthemums, clematis and different species of daisies.

By removing old flowers, you interrupt the vital process of seed production and induce beautiful new blooms. In those plants with thin and tender stems it can be done with the fingers, but use the scissors in those with more lignified stems.
